Pace Opportunity Centers licensed our first group home for people with mental retardation in 1985, in the Central Texas town of San Marcos. Jim Pace had been an auditor with the Texas Department of Health for the previous thirteen years, heading a team of professionals, who assessed the quality of services being provided at licensed mental retardation facilities.

Over the years, we grew from on e 6-person home to a statewide organization. Our programs offered a full range of options to folks with mental retardation . We had a dedicated staff, and well respected program.

In 1998, Jim Pace decided to retire, and sold his organization.

Now after six years of retirement, Mr. Pace has returned to the field, in which he worked for over 30 years. We now have purchased four existing ICF / MR facilities in Longview, Texas. Two homes for women, two for men. We provide our own day services, including a Folk Art Factory where we produce ceramics and other arts and crafts .

We are committed to providing the same high quality services that we were noted for in San Marcos. Also, we are now certified to provide Home & Community - Based Services (HCS) throughout the East Texas area.

  3. Companion Care, the residence may be owned or leased by the client , and shared by the companion .
  4. Supervised Living - Up to three clients living in a home owned by Pace Opportunity centers. This is for folks who don't require routine supervision, but still need some assistance with meal planning, recreation, transportation and housekeeping. Day Habilitation services provided.
  5. Residential Supports - for up to 4 folks who require supervision and support from direct services providers who are awake and present when clients are there. Day Habilitation services provided.
